Rain interrupted play on Thursday night at Olde Providence Racquet Club but there were some compelling singles matches before play was called.
In Singles, both Thomas Brown (the top seed) and Bekhzod Rasamatov (the two-seed) advanced to the round-of-16 in straight sets but one of the more highly competitive matches of the tournament took place on Court 9 where Shaurya Bharadwaj defeated Lance Cochran 5-7 6-1 1-0(4). The two big-hitters took turns seizing momentum in a match full of ebbs and flows. Ultimately, it took a third set tiebreaker to settle things as Bharadwaj executed more efficiently down the stretch and took the match. He will move on to face the top-seed on Friday.
Elsewhere, it was third-seeded Eduardo Dias battling past a tough Brett Gloria 4-6 6-1 1-0(6) in a highly entertaining match. Vasco Prata joined the top three seeds in the round-of-16 with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Gray Voelzke.
Other winners in the singles draw included fifth-seeded Ivan Dreycopp, Matias Iturbe (the 6-seed), Alex Lepine, Kim Niethammer, Jordi Castillo, Gabe Avram, and Numa Lemieux-Monette.
Play resumes at 330pm on Friday.
